Guided tour in English: “Edward Steichen (1879–1973). Selected photographs from the MNAHA collection in Luxembourg”

Edward Steichen is one of the fathers of modern photography. He rose to fame working as a portraitist and was a master of fashion and advertising photography. As the head of the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, he organized the canonical exhibition “The Family of Man”. It is for the first time in Poland that a retrospective of this exceptional artist’s work, composed entirely of his photographs from the collection of the Musée national d’archéologie, d’histoire et d’art in Luxembourg, is on display in the Museum of Photography in Krakow.

Guide: Marcin Krotla – art historian, museum and anti-discrimination educator. Apart from the Museum of Photography in Kraków, he has worked with the Forum for Dialogue Foundation, the International Cultural Centre in Kraków, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków (MOCAK) and the Wawel Royal Castle. Recently, he has also been involved in projects and educational activities at the Galicia Jewish Museum. What he values most in his work as an educator is the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with the audience, build relationships and share his passions.

Edward Steichen jest jednym z ojców współczesnej fotografii. Sławę zdobył jako portrecista, mistrz fotografii modowej i reklamowej. Jako kurator Działu Fotografii w nowojorskim Museum of Modern Art był odpowiedzialny za stworzenie wystawy „Rodzina człowiecza” („The Family of Man”). Po raz pierwszy w Polsce prezentujemy retrospektywę twórczości tego wyjątkowego artysty, złożoną w całości z autorskich odbitek z kolekcji Musée national d’rchéologie, d’histoire et d’art w Luksemburgu.

Prowadzenie: Marcin Krotla – historyk sztuki, edukator muzealny i antydyskryminacyjny. Poza Muzeum Fotografii współpracował z fundacją Forum Dialogu, Międzynarodowym Centrum Kultury w Krakowie, MOCAK-iem i Zamkiem Królewskim na Wawelu. Od niedawna realizuje także projekty i prowadzi działania edukacyjne w Żydowskim Muzeum Galicja. W pracy edukatora najbardziej ceni możliwość interakcji i wymiany myśli z publicznością, budowania relacji i dzielenia się swoimi fascynacjami.
