Guided tour in English of the “What Does a Photograph Do?” exhibition

More than 1,000 objects, including almost 300 cameras – this abundance should be explored with a guide. Asking “What does a photograph do?”, the curators of the main exhibition at the Museum of Photography in Kraków draw on a range of themes related to the process of taking photos and the ways in which photographs are used. Although the exposition at MuFo Rakowicka is not dedicated to the history of photography, it invites visitors to trace its origins, provides an insight into the technology of recording on film, glass plate or computer disk, and features the profiles of women and men photographers.

During the guided tour, we will look at the different roles photography plays, for instance as a family heirloom, a trigger for fooling around, an instrument for ethnographic research or propaganda. And we will reflect on the future of this medium.

Guide:
Marcin Krotla – art historian, museum and anti-discrimination educator. Apart from the Museum of Photography in Kraków, he has worked with the Forum for Dialogue Foundation, the International Cultural Centre in Kraków, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków (MOCAK) and the Wawel Royal Castle. Recently, he has also been involved in projects and educational activities at the Galicia Jewish Museum. What he values most in his work as an educator is the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with the audience, build relationships and share his passions.

Oprowadzanie w języku angielskim po wystawie głównej „Co robi zdjęcie?”

Ponad 1 000 obiektów, w tym niemal 300 aparatów fotograficznych – to bogactwo warto zobaczyć z przewodnikiem. Pytając „Co robi zdjęcie?”, kuratorzy wystawy głównej w Muzeum Fotografii w Krakowie sięgają po szereg tematów związanych z procesem fotografowania i sposobami wykorzystywania zdjęć. Ekspozycja w MuFo Rakowicka, choć nie jest poświęcona historii fotografii, zaprasza widzów do prześledzenia jej początków, daje wgląd w technologie zapisu na kliszy, szklanej płycie czy dysku komputera, przywołuje sylwetki fotografek i fotografów.

W trakcie oprowadzania przyjrzymy się różnym rolom fotografii: rodzinnej pamiątki, wyzwalacza wspólnego wygłupu, narzędzia badań etnograficznych czy propagandy. Zastanowimy się wspólnie nad przyszłością tego medium.

Prowadzenie:
Marcin Krotla – historyk sztuki, edukator muzealny i antydyskryminacyjny. Poza Muzeum Fotografii, współpracował z fundacją Forum Dialogu, Międzynarodowym Centrum Kultury w Krakowie, MOCAK-iem i Zamkiem Królewskim na Wawelu. Od niedawna realizuje także projekty i prowadzi działania edukacyjne w Żydowskim Muzeum Galicja. W pracy edukatora najbardziej ceni możliwość interakcji i wymiany myśli z publicznością, budowania relacji i dzielenia się swoimi fascynacjami.
